A young reader edition of the New York Times bestseller and National Book Award finalist about one of history's most ruthless and shocking crimes, the Reign of Terror against the Osage people.

In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. After oil was discovered beneath their land, the Osage rode in chauffeured automobiles, built mansions, and sent their children to study in Europe.

Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off.

As the death toll surpassed more than twenty-four Osage, the newly created F.B.I. took up the case, in what became one of the organization's first major homicide investigations. An undercover team, including one of the only Native American agents in the bureau, infiltrated the region, struggling to adopt the latest modern techniques of detection to bring an end to the deadly crime spree. Together with the Osage they began to expose one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.

In this youngification of the adult bestseller, critically acclaimed author David Grann revisits the gripping investigation into the shocking crimes against the Osage people. It is a searing indictment of the callousness and prejudice toward Native Americans that allowed the murderers to continue for so long and provides essential information for young readers about a shameful period in U.S. history.

Title: Interesting and informative
Review: I really like this book. Some complain about the amount of characters to remember, but I just use the character list in the back and I'm good to go. The topic was interesting and I'm amazed by how much I didn't know about this horrible tragedy.

Title: Engaging read
Review: This was a really engaging read. It had lots of facts, but not dry. And when referencing someone who had already been mentioned earlier, the author was good about adding identifying information to remind the reader who this person is.I didn't realize until almost all the waynthrough that this is the young readers' version. The author does not seem to "dumb down" the information for the younger reader, and I am interested in contrasting this to the original.

Title: Well written story
Review: The author wove a factual account into a smooth, engaging story. He is not a novelist, and I was surprised at the fluidity, which he was able to string timelines and people. Yet another historical situation, which has been buried until recently. Well written, and engaging.

Title: Compelling historical account. Far greater story than a story of FBI creation
Review: Great detail of the Osage Indian treatment by both individuals and Federal government. It shows how white individuals continued their racist behavior toward people who only thing that mattered was their characterization of being Indian. Great detail of the governments degradation using the law to control those that are not white men. Murder, manipulation, corruption, sadness, and greed shows how individuals will do anything to get what they want and everyone else’s expense. And it is not a story but what the Osage Indian suffered and probably still suffer the brutality of those that wanted what didn’t belong to them and willing to kill anyone and everyone to get

Title: David Grann's Killers of the Flower Moon was so hard to put down
Review: Even though it is adapted for young readers, I found the book to be very eye-opening and extremely hard to stop reading.

Title: Informative
Review: I really wanted to love this book, but the story line/characters were not connected well. I did learn some history of the Osage and the terrible way they were treated. I live the next county over and this provided insight to the tragedy.

Title: Indian rights
Review: I really am having a rough time finishing this book. The Osage Indian got so many raw deals by greedy, selfish white men, also by their own people; it's hard to read. The book is well written, that's not a problem, it's just hard to read and realize that nothing has changed in all these years. The same old greed and wickedness still goes on today. I will finish it, but it makes me more than a little sad. It does, however, make me more aware of the American Indian plight and I thank the author for that.

Review: The book was a good read, but very difficult to understand how some people in this world can think of themselves as superior when they can be so cruel to an other living creature. I had not heard of the Osage natives before this book was written, and I can’t understand some white people feel it’s their right to take what other people have, even kill for it. It was a very dark time in history. Sadly , there is still much prejudice towards other nationalities, even today.

Review: Murder, poisons and cover-ups. This excellent and painstakingly written book will tell of horrific plans to rival Nazi Germany in its impact. The wild west was lawless but racial hate and greed combine to tell a shocking tale. Dead men DO tell tales...
