Title: New Tech with Some Retro Charm
Review: The SEMIER SM-638 Compact AM/FM Radio caught my eye with its clean, simple design. To me, it looks like it could have been made "back in the day" by a team trying to anticipate what gadgets would look like "in the future." It has some retro charm, but also packs some new tech like Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in rechargeable battery. What I Like- Simple to use. One knob for volume/power. One knob for the radio dial. A physical sliding switch to let you select BT/AM/FM/SW. If you want this for the radio (as I did), you can leave it on FM and it will stay there -- there is no need to press a button to switch away from Bluetooth mode every time you turn it on.- Rotating antenna. The antenna telescopes, tilts, and rotates. Rotation may sound like a small thing, but it allows for the best possible reception without having to turn the radio itself.- Good Bluetooth connection. No drops or stutters in the music, even when walking away from the radio to go to an adjacent room with the phone in my pocket.- Sounds like "the radio." I'm not sure how to explain this, but it may make sense to you if you owned a radio similar to these in decades past: they all sounded similar -- not "hi-fi," not "terrible," you tuned-in to your favourite station and they just sounded like "the radio." Oddly, playing music from a Bluetooth source also sounds this way. It's different than the unenjoyable sound you might get from a small Bluetooth speaker, at least to my ears. Maybe it's all in my head, but the bottom line is that I don't mind listening to this for hours. What Could Be Better- Too many power options. I don't know who this is for, but there is an internal battery, a compartment for D cells, a 2-prong AC connection in the back (cable included), and a different AC connection on the side (cable not included). The instructions state that D cells should be removed before connecting to AC power. What happens if I don't? What happens if somebody connects both AC sources at once? Sometimes, less is more.- No charging/battery life indicator. The instructions confirm that there is no visual indication that charging is happening or has completed, and that the battery simply charges when the included AC cord is connected. What I Don't Like- Crooked volume knob. The volume pot is crooked inside the radio, which makes the knob crooked, too. It works as intended and the rest of the unit looks fine, but it raises concerns about build quality. This is likely a one-off mishap that won't be seen on your unit.I think the SM-638 is best for people who would benefit from the convenience of a Bluetooth connection (maybe for quiet listening in an office), but are looking primarily for a small radio. I'll be leaving music streaming duties to my bigger Bluetooth speakers, but will continue to enjoy this unit for its radio. Its ease of use may also make it a good (and familiar) candidate for seniors with memory issues, so long as you can limit their power options.

Title: A small sleek little radio with the clear sound ofr a big boom box!
Review: I bought this radio for its small sleek size- to fit in tight places. And I was pleasantly surprised to hear TRUE QUALITY SOUNDS emerge from it- quite like the sounds of old LARGE radios from years and years ago. WHAT A TRREASURE! I am thinking of buying more for friends! Amazing sound quality and convenience- as well as alternative power options! I love this little radio with the big clear sounds- and so will you!

Title: I like it and I don't like it.
Review: Pros:-Can be powered by AC, Internal lithium rechargeable battery or 2 D batteries.-Can tune in AM, FM and SW.-Has above average FM reception.-Has good AM reception.-Has good reception on SW considering the short antenna.-Has headphone jack.Neutral:-Has Bluetooth.Cons:-Tuning and Volume buttons are very slick and fingers slip easily on them.-Tuning is stiff and knob is difficult to turn without fingers slipping.-Speaker is small, bright and slightly tinny.-Speaker is less than 3" even though there is room for a much larger speaker.-Run time for internal lithium battery is only a few hours.-Can't be powered by USB C. You must use the included power cord to charge the internal battery.-Has short antenna. A longer antenna would improve reception.-Lacks weather band. This is kind of a difficult radio to review. There are things about it that I like and there are things that I dislike. The FM reception is above average, but could definitely be improved by a longer antenna. The AM reception is fairly good to above average for a radio of this size. The thing that I don't like is the small and somewhat tinny speaker. It is very clear, bright and can get quite loud for its small size. You can also pick up a lot of detail from it, but to my ears at least, it becomes very fatiguing to listen to in close quarters after listening to it for only a short while. Being such a very small speaker, it also lacks any bass, so it is best for listening to talk radio rather than most genres of music. The other thing that I really didn't like is the very slick knobs. They are pretty to look at, but they have no grip, and to add to this problem, they are small and the tuning is very stiff on this radio. I found that I had to grip the knobs very tightly to keep my fingers from slipping when tuning. These knobs should certainly be reengineered.Would I recommend this radio? Well, that depends on whether you like a bright sounding speaker or not. If you listen mostly to talk radio, I think you might like this radio since the speaker is clear and the spoken word sounds good and clear on it. If you can find it cheap, go for it, but if it is selling for over $20.00, there are definitely better options to consider.Update: I forgot to mention in my original review that this radio comes with some kind of mystery plug that is plugged in where you plug in the AC power wire, and it will not function on either internal batteries or on D batteries until you remove this plug. I still haven't figured out the purpose of this plug since you must remove it to plug in AC power and you also can't use batteries while it is installed, so I really don't know what the purpose is to this plug. When I first received this radio, I thought it was defective, until I figured this out. I'm hoping that this tid-bit of information will save someone from making an unnecessary return.
