The updated new edition of the comprehensive guide to reading and understanding financial reports

Financial reports are used to provide a range of vital information, including an organization’s cash flow, financial condition, and profit performance (aka The Big Three Financial Statements). Financial statements are often complex and extremely difficult to understand for anyone other than accounting and finance professionals. How to Read a Financial Report enablesinvestors, lenders, business leaders, analysts, and managers to read, analyze, and interpret financial accounting reports. Designed specifically for non-specialists, this reader-friendly resource covers the fundamentals of financial reporting in jargon-free English. Topics such as sales revenue & recognition, costs of goods sold, sources & uses of capital/cash, non-cash expenses (e.g., depreciation expense), income tax obligations, understanding profits & financial stability, and financial statement ratios & analysis are covered throughout the book.

Now in its ninth edition, this bestselling guide has been thoroughly revised to reflect changes in accounting and financial reporting rules, current practices, and recent trends. New and expanded content explains managing cash flow, illustrates the deceitful misrepresentation of profits in some financial reports (aka Financial Engineering), and more. Further, end-of-chapter activities help readers learn the intricacies of the balance sheet and cash flow statement, while updated sections address shifts in regulatory standards. Written by two highly experienced experts in financial accounting, this resource:

Title: The best book of financial statements on Amazon
Review: I’ve order every financial statement book on Amazon with decent reviews, and this is the best so far. It is worth the money and will give you a great overview of the three main financial statements. The chapters are broken up into very digestible sections that don’t require a great time commitment.

Title: Great for accounting newbies
Review: I'm a FR newbie and the textbook for my MBA class was just confusing me. I was so lost and felt like I couldn't catch up because the textbook was in a foreign language. Then I got this book... This book has visuals that helped me connect the dots between IS, CF, and BR in a way that was logical and made sense in my mind! And the language was simple and really helped make sense of what I couldn't in the textbook. As a brand marketer who was a history/English undergrad, this helped me in my financial reporting MBA class more than I can say!!

Title: Help for investing information
Review: I got this along with a pamphlet on definitions and between the two of them there is way more information than I ever could use! It has helped me when reading financial reports for investing in companies to help me understand the health of the company I’m looking to invest in and so far so good!

Title: Great overview and layout
Review: I found this to be very useful. Can't understate how important these concepts are when valuing an investment. If that's your angle, I highly recommend. If you want to learn accounting itself, there are probably other ways to go about it. The shape of the book/pages is a little weird and drew some looks on the train, but it does give the book a smaller size while still being legible. I put it on the shelf with the spine down so it doesn't stick out into the room.

Title: Helps Clear the Mystery
Review: The book is great for helping one wade through the maze of financial statements. Helps make investment reports more understandable. I have read it twice and is starting round 3. Understanding improves with each revisit.

Title: Revelation for the beginner. Revision for the intermediate.
Review: It's a good read. However, I was already acquainted with most of the knowledge being taught.from accounting courses at universities. The most important lessons I learned are: the interconnections between the financial statements, what negative cash-flow means, how companies can massage their numbers and the meaning of a CPA's opinion. Not bad.

Review: I had to buy this for class, it did what I needed it to and explained what we learned in class. This is a good tool for teaching but not a replacement for teaching
