From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp Series

Special Agent Mark Beamon is a maverick. His open disdain for the FBI's rules--and Directors--has exiled him to a no-profile post in the boondocks.

But when a shadowy right-wing group starts flooding America's emergency rooms with dead and dying, Beamon is summoned back to Washington. Teamed with an icily efficient female field agent, he is given the thankless task of stopping the slaughter--even though millions of Americans secretly approve of it!

As the body count rises, Beamon realizes there is something eerily familiar about his adversary, reminding him of the coldest killer he ever encountered--not a criminal but a law enforcement colleague. And for the first time, he wonders why he was chosen for this assignment.

Was it his expertise--or his expendability?

Title: GREAT READ - POOR PUBLISHING
Review: Got turned on to Kyle Mills when he did a turn on Ludlum's COVERT ONE series and been a fan since. I've been reading the Mark Beamon books out-of-order and this is my third one. The writing, pacing, characters were great. For me, this was a real page turner. The downside is that this is a HarperCollins-published e-book and they suck at it. The errors, typos, etc. are not so bad in this book as in others I've read, but still just as annoying. Kyle, if you're reading this, dump these morons and their ludicrously bad proofreading and formatting. You deserve better.

Review: If you like Tom Clancy, you will love Kyle Mills. Great thriller and will keep you entertained. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you reading. Love Mills writing.

Title: Not what I was expecting.
Review: The title didn't match the story at all. Don't know where the "Rising Phoenix" comes in;unless it's from the excerpt at the end pertaining to another short story that takes place in Phoenix. Anyway, the story line and characters take a while to develop, and some of the "villains" get thrown back into the plot later on without re-introductions. So, the reader is left thinking, "who is this guy again?"But, all in all, it was an ok read, seeing as it was published in 2010. There's been many improvements in electronic surveillance since then that law enforcement is using. Just keep that in mind while reading. Oh, and don't mind the smoking, drinking, "non-PC racist name calling, and sexist talk of that era.

Title: The exciting story of an effective, quick, awful way to solve America's illegal drugs problem once and for all. What a thriller!
Review: Do you want to put a screeching halt to America's illegal drugs problem and end all the crimes committed by the addicts hooked thereon? Simple...just poison the illegal drugs and forewarn everyone with full page ads. That way, those failing to heed the advance warning and dying as the result were responsible for their own deaths, correct?Well that is exactly what was done...and it made a whale of a story by a great young author of thrillers...Kyle Mills. You'll have to get this book from the 'used book sellers' as I did along with 10 others written by this author via just one click at Amazon.com

Title: Good but not great
Review: I’ve read all the Vince Flynn series by this author. He did an excellent job. This particular was, in my opinion, not nearly as good. The story was interesting, suspenseful, but sometimes difficult to follow. Also, there wasn’t any particularly redeeming character in the book. It wasn’t, for me, a spellbinder.

Title: A good set of characters and action.
Review: This is a new author for me. The story easily kept my attention while various threads of action kept me curious. The main character Mark Beamon is an interesting combination of success and failure. He has good friends an antagonists within the FBI. The history of his career adds to roadblocks as well as help. A good tome for those who enjoy mysteries.

Title: Smart and sad novel
Review: Rising Phoenix made me feel like I am torn between my moral sense and high value of human life and my deep hatred of drugs. Will deliberate poisoning of drugs cure men and women of their addiction killing thousands in the process and will that act be a crime or a benefit to a society?A small group of men decided to solve the drug problem by their own devious and ruthless means with FBI trying to stop them.An extremely clever and cynical former law enforcement agent John Hobart conceived and executed drug fighting plan, but is it really a solution in the end?The world today is desperate to stop drug addiction, so anybody who cares should find the time to read a book like that.

Review: I only discovered Kyle Mills recently, after being recommended Smoke Screen. I decided to start from the beginning of the Mark Beamon series and what a page turner! Easy reading, fast dialogue, witty banter, great characters, thought provoking. Slightly dark/twisted humour with laugh out loud moments. I’ve just ordered the next 3 books in the series.

Review: just started reading this author - was pretty good. Took me a little to get into because i'm used to either romance or Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, Ben Coes and this was a different style altogether.

Review: Well, first of all this is a great action story that you will love while travelling or on the beach. But then, it is also a story against which you can test your own standards: do you accept that killing thounsands of coke-addicted poor people is acceptable when you can win the war against drug cartels ? This is not an easy task and Mills plays wonderfully with this dilemma. Therefore: the idea of the story is key and not the characters. Mills creates an action packed story around a whole new idea of fighting drugs but the characters remain weak. However, it is super entertainment...
