“Perfect fine-feathered fun.” — Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
Jack the cat is building the perfect nest. It’s bound to attract the perfect chicken, who will lay the perfect egg, which will make the perfect omelet. And sure enough, a chicken shows up ("¡Caramba!"), but so do a duck ("Sacré bleu!") and a goose ("Great balls of fire!"). Feathers get ruffled — and Jack gets much more than breakfast — in a funny tale rich in detail, with a sweet final twist.

Title: Funny read-aloud!
Review: I worked as an elementary library assistant, and this book -- second only to "'What?' Cried Granny" -- is a hilarious read-aloud for elementary kids, up through maybe 3rd grade. The plot: A cat living on a farm tries to trick a chicken, duck & goose to lay eggs for him to eat. They each lay one egg in a nest he sets up as a trap. But to the cat's dismay, the eggs hatch, with none of the mothers in sight, and all the babies now think the cat is their mommy. Here's where the funny part comes in: the baby chick speaks Spanish (like its mother), the baby duck speaks French (like its mother), and the baby goose has a Southern US accent (like its mother). If you can mimic these accents, it'll make it more funny for your kids/student audience.(E.g., after hatching, the babies look up at the cat and say, respectively, "Hola, Mamá!", "Bonjour, Maman!" and "Howdy, Maw!")The story ends in a cute way.I highly recommend it as a read-aloud for any younger kids!

Title: One of my son's favorite books.
Review: This is one of my favorite books to give as a gift. It has a cute storyline, when read aloud, it affords the opportunity to use different voices and accents, and it holds a child's attention. The illustrations are cute and show some visual humor as well.I first came across the book in our local library and my son liked it so much, I bought it. I since have purchased several copies for baby and birthday gifts.I highly recommend it!

Title: Very Cute Book
Review: I bought this book for my son after my Grandmother sent me the money because she had read a review and thought he would really like it. Both Barnes and Nobles stores in our areas (she lives in Arizon and I live in Texas) were sold out of them so I found it here. My son does like it and asks to read it every once in awhile, but he is only 2 so I think when he gets a little older he will like it even better. It is a cute little story and I think kids a little older will really like it.

Title: The Perfect Nest
Review: Reviewing children's picture books is a bit out of my league but this is a wonderful little book. Catherine Friend has turned out some excellent material for children and this is a wonderful example. The artwork by John Manders will intrigue any child and perfectly complements the story. The "stars" of this book are feline and fowl. Jack the cat wants an omelet but knows the egg precedes the omelet, the chicken comes before the egg, and first must be the nest. I'll leave it to the reader to follow the story and see what Jack gets. Along the way you will meet not only the chicken, but also a duck, and a goose. They speak just enough Spanish and French so that the young readers will have to translate a couple of words for their parents. Mom and Dad will be fascinated to learn that language is genetic in fowls."The Perfect Nest" will make a perfect gift. Gracias, Merci, Thank-ye; Ms. Friend.

Review: This is a really cute book. The chicken (Spanish), duck (French) and goose (country) all have catch phrases that allow for funny voices during a read aloud. My kindergartens LOVED it and were laughing like crazy. We used it as in introduction to their âCan you build a nest?â STEM challenge.
